I am currently an Adjunct Professor at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) and a full time PhD student at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS). My PhD studies are focused on researching the linkages between organizational capacity, programmatic strategy and impact of NGOs. I am particularly interested in understanding how a systemic appreciation of an NGOs broader ecosystem—including an understanding the real needs of primary stakeholders, relations with other actors, and the inherent complexities of human development—can lead to improved development interventions. I believe that it is critical to understand the capacities and learning processes that are necessary for this type of systemic approach to organizational strategy, and that new methodologies must be tested and researched if NGOs are to be able to consistently and effectively support meaningful impact. I am particularly interested in how systemic, whole systems in the room, and reflective approaches can lead to potential breakthroughs and shifts in mindsets that support systemic change processes.
